Queens of the Stone Age Friday, Kirk Franklin Saturday, Derby Day, and the Kiwanis See's Candies sale opens. Here is your weekend plan.
A good weekend requires two things: options and a loose plan. Lincoln has you covered on the first. Let me help with the second.
Friday night: Queens of the Stone Age
Queens of the Stone Age bring The Catacombs Tour to The Venue at Thunder Valley on Friday, May 1, at 7 PM. Libby Grace opens. Doors get heavy, so if you are going, plan to eat early. A Lincoln Boulevard dinner before the show is the move.
Saturday is Derby Day
The first Saturday in May is Kentucky Derby Day, which in Lincoln means exactly what you want it to mean. A few ideas depending on your energy level.
If you want the full Derby Day experience, throw a hat on and hit a local winery. Wise Villa Winery and Rancho Roble Vineyards are both ten minutes out.
If you want a proper Italian dinner to cap it off, Buonarroti Ristorante on Lincoln Boulevard is the reservation to make. I am writing up their full story tomorrow.
If you want live music instead, Kirk Franklin plays The Venue at Thunder Valley Saturday night at 7:30 PM with Jonathan McReynolds.
Saturday daytime: See’s Candies is open for Mother’s Day
The Kiwanis Club of Lincoln opens its See’s Candies Mother’s Day sale on Saturday, May 2, and it runs through May 10. Proceeds support local programs for kids and families. If Mom likes chocolate (she does), this is the one time of year you can check a gift off your list and fund a nonprofit at the same time.
Sunday: slow down
If Saturday goes the way Saturday usually goes, spend Sunday on a patio somewhere. The weather is supposed to be kind.
Whatever shape your weekend takes, enjoy it.
Thanks, Derek
