The Week Ahead in Lincoln: April 26 to May 2

Your week in Lincoln: Queens of the Stone Age Friday, Kirk Franklin Saturday, Derby Day, and a $1,688 veterans mortgage offer.

From the blog

Hey Lincoln. I am writing this from a sunny back porch, and based on the forecast, you are about to have the first truly warm week of the year. Here is what I have my eye on.

The big weekend

It is Kentucky Derby weekend, which always sneaks up on people. Saturday, May 2 is Derby Day, and Lincoln has the perfect setup for it between local wineries, patio dinners, and a couple of big shows out at Thunder Valley. Queens of the Stone Age play Friday night. Kirk Franklin with Jonathan McReynolds plays Saturday.

Mother’s Day countdown starts now

Mother’s Day is Sunday, May 10. That is 14 days away, which means florist orders, brunch reservations, and gift runs all start this week. The Kiwanis Club of Lincoln opens its See’s Candies Mother’s Day sale on Saturday, May 2, and it runs through the 10th. Great cause, great chocolate, two birds.

This week’s offer

Our Wednesday Offer of the Week is a big one. Mike Swaleh at Fairway Home Mortgage is running a Veterans Fee Waiver worth $1,688 in savings for Lincoln veterans looking to buy or refinance. Mike has been doing this in Lincoln for nearly two decades, and if you or someone in your family has served, this is money back in your pocket. Full details on Mike’s ClickUpLocal listing.

Where I am sending people for dinner

If you are looking for a Derby weekend reservation, I keep pointing people at Buonarroti Ristorante on Lincoln Boulevard. Full bar, hand-rolled pastas, old-world room. It is exactly the kind of place you want on a warm Saturday night with your hat still on from Derby.

Quick hits

The full weekend rundown lands Thursday. Florist recommendations for Mother’s Day land Tuesday. And Saturday I have a small announcement about ClickUpLocal that is worth reading.
